all my attention squinting westward at the sunset

Some memories of the weekend.

Madison, Lily and I went up to Paonia, the little hippie town I used to live in, for a few nights.
We stayed at my grandparents' farm, drank cider at a bluegrass concert in an orchard, and embraced our grimy, Chaco-clad toes.
All I've wanted to do lately is wear my comfy elephant hippie pants and Chaco sandals and groove to folk music and lay in fields, so this weekend was perfect for that.
Now I just have to make it through finals and the last few weeks of torture before heading off to Berlin for the summer. School is getting harder and harder to care about.

Hope everyone is well!

a restless feeling by my side

unknown source

wipe the dust off the sill.
drag open the windows.
go outside.
collect leaves.
pack away the wool.
pedal to the market.

I've decided to start blogging again. I think it is a good creative outlet; it is a lot easier to post some things here than in my journal. I am not going to say how often I'll try to post so as not to stress myself out. Let's see how it goes?

Outfit // Don't tell me what to do

An outfit from a while ago when it was spring and I was in Colorado. Ew look at the trees there aren't any leaves ewewew winter.

sunglasses-TJ Maxx?; shirt-Walmart/DIYed; skirt-Forever 21; jacket-thrifted; shoes-Doc Martens

made with iron-on transfer paper, not my drawing (source unknown)
I'm posting from my iPod, so the format might be a bit weird, sorry!

Outfit // Deadbeat Summer

Top-thrifted; skirt-thrifted; bag-'do you read me?' Bookstore in berlin; flatforms-ASOS

It makes me so happy to be in a city in which everyone has such a unique style and I don't feel incredibly out-of-place wearing something like this. There are 2 huge thrift stores here that have more pricey (but still really cheap) vintage sections and then clothes by weight. One has a happy hour on Tuesday and the other on Wednesday so we always go during those times to get the 30% discount! I got the skirt I'm wearing at one a couple weeks ago along with a flannel and tropical-print coverup, and today I got these adorable pinstripe dungarees (only 7€!):

For summer reading I have to read To Kill a Mockingbird and Slaughterhouse-Five. I finished To Kill a Mockingbird a few days ago and loved it! These dungarees will definitely be perfect for channeling Scout. Mascha and I are going to Prague next week (alone!) for a few days and I'm incredibly excited, so expect pictures soon!

Some random pictures from today:

             Cool east German building

This did not end well (hint: those                plants are poison ivy)

North African food for lunch 😍

                         That's it!

It feels like I only go backwards

Yes, it's time.

I'm going to write a blog post.

Maybe. Here goes:

Hi people of the blogosphere! Long time no see! Obviously, I have not been the most-----i am now writing about 2 hours later, because the grandma of my best friend who I am staying with just came so I had to speak german and play cards with her (see what I mean?)-----reliable blogger, for various reasons I will only summarise for you.
The last time I posted something was right before school ended, so I was super busy with projects and final exams. The day that school ended Mascha and I went to my grandparents' farm for 5 days, then to NYC for a week, then to berlin, then to an island in the baltic sea with no internet, and now we are back in Berlin. So I haven't had much time...
Today I met up with a friend of mine from colorado, and then I went and sat in a little cafe for 3 hours and drank coffee and ate a sandwich and drew and watched people, which was amazing and perfect and I felt like I was in a movie or that someone should really make I movie about me or that wait no I should make a movie. It was very emotional and I listened to High Highs the whole time which made it even more perfect. Like look where I sat:

(excessive photos I know I know)

And here are some random pages of my sketchbook that I did recently.

I am so happy to be back in europe...

Outfits // Spring and Patterns

UGH so I just wrote a whole post and then it didn't save and I'm so mad.
But anyways, these are some simple outfits that we wore to school the other day...
The first one is Mascha (follow her tumblr strawberryfield-s!).
I'm going to miss her so much...
Speaking of which, I have to go do homework.
shirt-H&M; Skirt-UO; socks-H&M; shoes-thrifted

jacket-thrifted; shirt-JCPennys; skirt-UO; Converse

we have been making a lot of alphabet bead bracelets lately, like the ones I'm wearing an these:

hope you are all having a lovely day!

Like a Rolling Stone

So now I'm just going to ignore the fact that I haven't blogged for more than a month due to various reasons and save you from hearing about them all, and just share some pictures with you!
The first ones are from a river trip that we went on during spring break, down the San Juan river in Utah. It was super fun, but some days were stormy and horrible...and we were definitely ready to get back to civilization and running water after a week!
obviously, river trips are extremely fashion-foward!

ancient native american ruins along the river

brief hiatus from the storm

...and these pictures are from about a month ago, of my friend mascha (the one who is staying with me for 3 months) and me.

All photos by me,
Please don't steal!
Feel free to ask if you want to use them though!

I have posts lined up, so hopefully it won't be another month before I post again! xx

We cannot cling to the old dreams anymore...

to lazy and confused about life to write anything else.
better get to bed!
let's try to remember the days when I posted more than a few word every 2 weeks or so okay?

Small Town Adventures

a lot has been happening lately....
well not really I just moved into a new house and finished like a million projects and went wifi-less for 4 days and had 2 movie nights with my friends and had crushes on about 5 different people and went on adventures and found $12 in the floor at school and spent it all and made some collages and celebrated my birthday and got an ipod5 and ate cake and took a whole shitload of standardized tests and and
My friend Mascha from Germany is coming in a few days!!!
I'm so excited omfg.
She's going to be here for 3 months.
I have a hugggeee list of things that we are gonna do when she's here.
and a friend living with me means someone to take pictures of me which means outfit posts.
Lots, and lots, and lots, of outfit posts!
In the meantime, I just wanted to share with you a few pictures that I have taken with my friends around town in the past couple weeks.
I also took some with my film camera, but haven't gotten those developed yet, so here are the ones we took with our ipods and are really over edited but whatever. This is just a sneak peek!

My gorgeous friend Lily

we so hipstahhh

my gorgeous friend Caroline
My lil sis and her best friend

...and that's it for now, I'll be posting more later :)

I'd write something but instead I'm going to watch MORE Freaks and Geeks and eat something.

(aca-) awkward and tacky doodles (i.e. what I do in German class)

SOOoooooo these, my friends, are random little doodles that I do in German class after i finish the worksheets that everyone else takes the whole class doing.

I hope you all had a great valentines day.

Mine was uneventful...

My mom discovered this little thing of a blog today, and I'm really mad, so mom-if you are reading this, you can please stop now and never read this again because it's mine and you're mean and I promise to tell you whatever I want you to know already okay? love you <3

Polyvore and Procrastination 101

Thought I could share some of my recent polyvore sets
Basically, what you can learn from them is that I really need some band tees and leather bags and new glasses and lace-up booties.
P.S. Someday, yes, I will post something more interesting and relevant to ~life~ and other boring things like that

years ago today

Good afternoon! Happy Friday! It's the weekend now! You can stay up late watching Freaks and Geeks!

oh wait, everybody else actually does stuff on the weekends. . . oops.

I've decided that it's about time I post something, because its been almost 2 weeks now I think?

I've been super busy with schoolwork, and all of my spare time on the internet has been filled up with all-caps conversations with the lovely staffs of The Wandering and Outsider mag.

And, I hate to tell you this, but I have a poetry essay due on Monday that I should probably be working on.
So this is sort of a filler post.

but hey, that means pictures! of pretty places I've been!
all pictures taken by me, Lydia Thompson. please ask if you would like to use them, I will probably say yes :)
Photos taken with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel or iphone 3

Exactly one year ago today:

Street art in Tel Aiv

Pistachio and Poppy seed ice cream in Tel Aviv
juice stand in Tel Aviv, nomnomnom

Adorable dolls/sculptures at the Tel Aviv art market
Breakin the rules, Tel Aviv

And exactly a year before that, in 2012:

Naples, or one of the most gorgeous cities on this planet omg
light in Naples or Rome, I can't remember...
Always-chaotic Naples at night
Procida, an island near Naples
You know, just a 2000 YEAR OLD MURAL in Herculaneum, one of the towns buried by Vesuvius (i.e. the volcano that buried Pompeii). We went here instead of Pompeii because supposedly it's more intact and smaller.
There were tons of shrines in Naples...

Somewhere in Rome, probably the Vatican or something; Dinner

Wherever we travel, my family always has a goal- to find the best ice cream. We often have at least 3 servings a day! This was one of the best in Rome...
Rome street scene- I just realized the sign says Israel, which is really weird, but I swear this one is Italy!
So that's it! When we lived in Berlin we were able to travel a lot, because it was so inexpensive and everything was soooo close! These were both during winter break, which was always this week in Berlin. I don't have winter break till the week after next this year, and we aren't going ANYWHERE. Oh well, I'll probably just ski the whole time....

Do any of you have winter break right now or soon? Going anywhere?

Haul // Santa Fe

Good Evening! Or morning or afternoon or night or whatever time it is where you're reading this...
I'd first like to thank you all for the lovely comments on my last post about high school etc. It was really nice to read them <3

My family went to Sante Fe this weekend, because it's only about 3.5 hours away and my mom wanted a mini vacation.
I discovered it is #13 on some list of most hipster cities in the US, so that made me excited haha.
It was actually really nice, I have been there a few times before but this time was able to go thrifting and do some stuff I hadn't done before.
Santa Fe has a really "Southwestern" sorta feel to it, because all of the buildings are in that sort of style, and there are lots of southwestern sort of shops for the tourists. It's not really my thing but the buildings are pretty...

This song seems appropriate (noooobody would have thought, am I right?!), even though Santa Fe is thousands of miles away from the ocean (sadly...).

I hardly took annyy pictures while I was there for some reason....

Gorgeous chili wreaths

These pretty poems/quotes were on windows all around the city
Thrift Haul from the Last Couple of Weeks
Isaac Mizrahi Shoes from Goodwill in Santa Fe- $5

What I wore yesterday

Ann Taylor LOFT striped shirt, San Francisco Goodwill- $7
Benaz Sarafpour for Target shirt, Santa Fe Goodwill- $3 (It's real silk guyz!)
black mesh top, San Francisco Goodwill- $5
Vintage houndstooth Peacoat, Durango Thrift store- $3 (yes, ladies and gentlemen, THREE DOLLARS)
vintage button up, Durango thrift- $2
details of the shirt above-velvet buttons and collar!!
Oversized green/blueish wool sweater, Santa Fe Goodwill- $3 (Gold buttonssss mwahahahaha) I put the sleeves in the pockets cause I'm cool like that okay?)
So yea, got some decent stuff! I wish there was a Goodwill here, because that is where I seem to get the best things!

I still haven't found Lula anywhere :(

I'm going to get some film developed reallllyyyy soon, so my next post will hopefully be some scans!
Speaking of film, I am taking a film photography class this semester, which is really fun so far! All that we've really done is make pinhole cameras and then attempted to take some pictures with them. My first try worked, but then today I took like 5 different pictures and none of them did! It's really hard to get the exposure right...
Next week we will start to take and develop photos with actual film (instead of photo paper) and actual cameras, so hopefully that's more successful!

Just a super quick post before I finish start my homework, to thank Kalie from itsrainingblueumbrellas for the amazing care package I received today!
My floor is covered in glitter.
And I'm supppperrrr happy!
Kalie, yours is in-the-making (I'm a little slow, sorry)
Everything in it is amazing.
And I can't wait to reply to your letter!

high school, adolescence & way too many decisions

Lately I've been thinking a lot about growing up.
Even though I'm only half way through freshman year and all, it seems as if I already need to start thinking about life and college and jobs and all that boring grown up stuff. And the sad thing is, I probably should be!
I just hate it.
I can barely decide what kind of cereal to buy, okay?
And recently, I feel like I'm not getting enough out my youth really, like not livin' it up enough, or having the "teenage experience".
Not that I really want to go out partying every weekend and get super wasted like everybody else in high schools everywhere or anything.
But at the same time, staying up till morning studying and watching TV all alone on Friday nights isn't all that great either. (actually, I really enjoy it, and laughing with yourself at New Girl is pretty fun too)(I'm not being sarcastic)(or am I?)

Just listen to this song and cry about your social life with me:
(not that I'm just assuming all of us blogging about flower crowns and James Franco and typewriters wouldn't have a booming social life or anything)
partying all night?
sneaking out?
drinking in the small town firelight?
stealing police cars?
skipping school?
breaking into hotel pools?
running from cops in black bikini tops?
It even says freshman.

But instead I decide to care about my grades and eat lunch in the algebra room with my 3 friends,
and then go make snow angles instead of "drinking vodka out of hawaiian punch bottles at like, 11 A.M." (legitimate quote from some idiot in my biology class)(yea, really, stupid I know)

But I feel like maybe I should go to parties and stuff (not that I'm invited or anything, hahaha.), because what if then in like 15 years I'm all like:

So I don't know what to do.

And Lana and Marina aren't helping.

journal // ever since last time

Some of the things I've done in my journal since I last posted about it.

guess who! I actually drew this more towards the beginning of last year.

Picture from Nylon magazine, random quote.

"The Golden Girls" flyer from San Francisco, blackout poem (save a wish, christmas is near). I was really lucky to find a page that had the word Christmas on it in my December chapter!

shoes from who-knows-where that I realllyyyy love and a quick drawing of my hand

photo from Nylon and a poem I wrote recently when I had to for English class

a horoscope from the free people blog that expressed perfectly what I was feeling that week, a page full of circles

drawing of my camera that I also did towards the beginning of last year

watercolour of an eye that I did last night, beautiful words from one of the journal entries submitted to Rookie, I'm not sure if that's the original source or what

Got bored and drew random stuff on my ipod

my life, picture from Nylon with a random little thought from me

P.S. It was only 10  degrees fahrenheit today here so stay warm! (unless you're lucky and live in Australia or somewhere else that's warm right now)

Liebster Awards!

Hi lovlies....I'm home sorta sick so I thought I should probably do the Liebster awards that I was nominated for a while ago!

  • The award is for bloggers with less than 200 followers
  • The nominees must link back to the blogger who awarded them
  • If you are nominated write 11 random facts about yourself and answer the 11 questions written by the blogger who nominated you
  • Make up 11 new questions to be answered and nominate 11 other bloggers!

I'm not going to state 10 things about myself because I"ve already done that in my last Liebster Award post and I'm lazy.

from Sophie:

  • If you could make the grass any colour, what colour would you make it?
  • I actually really like green grass. If anything though, maybe pink or purple or something neon so it's totally unnatural-like.
  • What is your biggest dream?
  • To be successful, not necessarily money-wise but just happy, in love, safe, and rich enough to travel a lot.
  • Sweet or savoury?
  • Is this even a question? Sweet. Duhhh
  • What is your favourite ice cream flavour?
  • hmmmm well. My family is sort of obsessed with icecream so we eat ALOT of it. For a normal flavor, I really like cookie dough and mango. My favorite ben and jerry's flavor is phish food or ny super fudge. My favorite more unconventional flavors are coconut curry, cherry lavender, salted caramel and tahini.
  • If you could go back in time, when and where would you go and why?
  • I would loooooveeee to be in NYC in the 20s, solely for the Great Gatsby-esque parties and glam. Or ancient greece. Or LA in the 80s. or, or or....
  • If you could be on the cover of any magazine, which one would you choose?
  • Of course, the first thing that came to mind was vogue. But that's only if I become super famous. Actually, to be on the cover of most magazines means your famous. Anywayyyysss maybe ID because they feature really smart people that have done really interesting things, mainly fashion-associated.
  • Favourite cheesy, cringey or just plain embarrassing film or band/artist that you are sometimes embarrassed to admit that you really like?
  • I haven't quite yet let go of my Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus obsession from 5th grade. Yup.
  • How are you feeling right now?
  • Well. I have barely gotten out of bed today! I cried for like an hour earlier for various reasons. I have my period and it has been blizzarding and I realllyyy didn't want to go to school so anyways that why I'm home.
  • If you could have one designer handbag, which brand would you choose and why?
  • Ummmm I've never really thought about this and therefore don't know very many designer handbag brands! So probably one of the classy black chanel ones with the chain because they're classy and I'm classy and I like classy and enough with this bye.
  • What are you passionate about?
  • I honestly am still trying to figure it out.
  • What do you do to cheer yourself up if you are sad?
  • listen to happy music, lay in bed, watch new girl and the mindy project and 2 broke girls, eat lots of sweets

    I'm nominating:

    Just some splendid little things

Oh Paul, how great can you get? You have no idea how much I appreciate that I have the same camera. no. idea.

So I know you all know Kara Hayward (Suzy Bisshop anyone?) and you have probably already seen these, especially if you have a Lula subscription, in which case I hate you and you should go die in a hole.
I'm not even going to begin on how gorgeous she is and how unfair it is that I'm not here. She's only 14 Why am I not her?

the cover of the current W magazine is sorta just a little amazing

digital polaroid anyone? I know, I know- the old ones are cooler, but this is much cheaper for ink (not film-its like a mini printer inside the camera!) so it's on the top of my wish list. The only concern I might have is that the effect isn't as cool but who knows.

just about the best thing ever. Was talking to my parents about college yesterday and basically started crying.

what am I talking about? fuck college, I'm moving to Paris and starting a poem shop.

printing it out and bringing it to school, they won't even know what hit them.

HAHAHAHA idk if any of you even watch Sherlock but I'm freaking out because the next season probably isn't coming out till early next year because of the stupid HOBBIT that they are both in (which I just saw like an hour ago btw) and I honestly am not sure if I can wait that long. Life is so hard. #firstworldproblems

     100% me omg.

    That's it.
